The hotel building is located on the territory of the Kumayri historical and cultural reserve-museum and is protected by the state.
The building was built in the 1870s by craftsmen from Erzurum and Kars. Since the end of the 19th century, this building has operated as a hotel called “France”.
At the beginning of the 20th century, after the Sovietization of Armenia, it was turned into a maternity hospital, and later, from the 1950s, the administrative departments of the KGB and the prosecutor's office were located here.
Very often visitors confuse the hotel building with a museum.
And in 2021, the “Grand Hotel Gyumri” opened.
